Most Bizarre Medical Blunders to Have Ever Happened

From incorrect diagnosis to wrong patients.

We trust the doctors with our lives. Don’t we? Of course, we do. Because what else are we supposed to do when we have breathing problems or sudden pain in the back? We rush to them and trust them that they’ll be able to fix us.

But what if, they were having a bad day or were just distracted for a bit… And they ‘forgot’ some important procedure which makes us limp forever? Well well well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves but sure, such things can happen. Cause they have in fact happened.

From performing surgeries on the wrong people to forgetting stuff inside patients, some doctors have done it all. Not intentionally, but they have. No, I’m not making this up.

See for yourself!

Performed brain surgery on the WRONG PERSON.

Yep. So this happened in Kenya literally a week ago. Not just any surgery, by the way. F***ing brain surgery. Apparently, there was a mix up of the patients, one needed a brain clot removed while the other needed meds for a swollen head. Well well well, the latter got a little more than he asked for. The reports say he is doing well though.

I sure hope he is!

Mistaken BOOB IMPLANTS on a man.

This happened with former Mr Mexico, Alexander Baez who was also a bodybuilder. He desired a perfect body and hence, decided to get pectoral implants, which ideally would’ve resulted in improved chest contour. Buuuut, when he woke up, he found out he had been operated for breast implants and not pec implants. Turns out, the ‘doctor’ who performed the surgery wasn’t a real doctor.

Talk about bad luck…

WRONG Sperm.

Imagine wanting a kid > not being able to conceive > relying on fertilization treatments > getting pregnant by artificial insemination > having a kid…

ONLY to find out that the child (the sperm actually) isn’t your partner’s!

No, I’m not making this up. A couple from Long Island faced this dilemma after they realised that the husband wasn’t the biological father of the child. Sure, they realised this because of the color of the baby (she was dark skinned), but they are allowed to be shocked nonetheless.

Don’t you think?

Wrong testicle removed.

Benjamin Houghton needed to get the left testicle removed because of cancer. It was the left testicle. But the doctors mistakenly removed the right one, which was healthy. The patient later said, “At first I thought it was a joke. Then I was shocked and asked them, what do I do now?”

Well, nothing comes to mind. Nothing.

Forgotten retractor in the body.

Yep, it is EXACTLY what it looks like. The doctors conducted surgery on Donald Church, who had a tumor in his abdomen. It was removed but something else took its place. Church actually found about it at the security check of an airport. The metal detectors went off as soon as he passed it, only to reveal the 13-inch retractor in his body. It was later removed with no long-term health consequences for him and a compensation from the hospital as well, but still!

Must’ve been hella weird.

6 months left to live, you need surgery… Oops, false alarm.

So this happened with Kim Tutt, who had a lump on her jaw. After she went to the dentist, she was told that she had cancer and only 3–6 months left to live. She could be saved or saved for some time at least if the left side of her chin was removed. Of course, she agreed. Three months later, she was told she was cancer-free. The sad part was that she NEVER had cancer to begin with. There was a mix up in the lab.

Uhhh. What the f**k…

Wrong leg amputated.

Imagine getting to know that you need to get a leg amputated because you’re diabetic. You’re sh*t worried, anxious to the core, praying all the while, hoping that you’d wake up from the surgery without having your leg gone. You wake up, only to find THE leg is gone, the WRONG one. Well, if you can imagine all that, you just stepped in the shoes of Willie King.

The case got a lot of media attention and the patient was compensated heavily by the hospital and the doctor.

On a serious note, the doctor believed he was operating the right leg. It all happened because of a series of errors starting from the scheduler accidentally listing the wrong foot.

This one is truly sad…

Keep calm though…

The above-listed cases are few in millions. This does not mean that we stop trusting the doctors. So, relax…
